The development of technology has impacted all the sectors, including the cinema, also known as the entertainment sector. Out of all the ways, the inclusion of 3D is one among them. It is basically the act of enhancing the illusion of depth perception, thus adding a third dimension by projecting a video with flat characters such that they come to life. Earlier films were shot in 2D i.e., in a normal manner and late converted into 3D. Today a lot of big budget films are shot in 3D. Basically it is shot keeping in mind how the human eye functions and there are certain cameras through which it is shot and it is done stereoscopically.

After a film is shot in 2D, it is converted. However it is possible to identify if a film has been shot or converted into 3D. A lot of films are made using latter technique as they claim it is a cost effective method, one of the reasons why a film being shot in 3D is claimed to be a marvel in technology and a milestone in cinema history. Film makers also claim that films are shot in 3D and not converted into because the script demands the usage of such technology. Films like 2.0(2018), Finding Dory (2016) etc are films which are shot in 3D. 2.0 by Shankar, which has Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar, is being made at a whooping budget of 500 crores. Known for making films on a grand scale, this film is being shot in 3D, which experts claim it to be original 3D with enhanced graphics, stunning visuals and a high quality output. It is generally difficult to identify if a film is converted or originally shot as people dont tend to ollok into the technical aspects. There is an easy way, which involves looking at the credits. If one can see titles like Stereoscopic Supervisor, then the film is converted. Another technique involves closing one of your eye when you watch a film. Close your left eye and watch a film. Then close your right eye and watch it. If you can notice a movement of the images due to the position of your eyes, then it is not converted and it is originally shot. If you cannot notice any difference in the position of the images, then the movie is converted.

However people dont look at such technical details as the primary reason for them watching a movie is entertainment. A film strives to entertain the masses. But some experts are sceptical about the same as they claim that they are spending extra amount for watching 3D, regardless of how the technology used be it original or fake 3D. They claim that the film looks fake when it is converted. Although the advent of advanced methods of film making, such as IMAX has changed the scenario of advanced film making, it continues to be a base for the same.
